Equipping and inspiring young people dealing with 'eco-anxiety'

Inspired by the benefit of journalling during the pandemic, the Climate Carers team at Imperial College London wanted to create a tool to help young people process 'eco-anxiety'. They worked with a group of young people, alongside mental health and environmental professionals to create a four-week workbook, leading young people through a journey of engaging activities and inspiring content.

We leaned into illustration to provide an empathetic and thoughtful tone to the visual style, using texture and a calming colour palette. Key illustrations highlight stages in the journey, with daily structured activities helping young people record how they are feeling, and what they are learning. Use of colour and illustration creates a clear navigation system, making the workbook appealing and easy to use. We also wanted it to be easy to take out and about, so it's A5 size makes it handy to slip into a bag.
